![]() ![]() Morning drive time on KFI has been hosted by Bill Handel since 1993. KFI features mostly local hosts while KEIB 1150 AM has a schedule of nationally syndicated talk shows. KFI is one of two iHeartMedia stations in Los Angeles that carry a talk radio format. Like other stations owned by iHeartMedia, KFI uses iHeartRadio to stream its webcast. Federal Communications Commission to broadcast in the HD (hybrid) format however, it was reported that KFI turned off its HD signal as of August 12, 2015. KFI and KNX (AM 1070 and 97.1 FM) serve as the primary entry points for the Southern California Emergency Alert System, which are responsible for activation of the EAS when hazardous weather alerts, disaster area declarations, and child abductions are issued. ![]() At night, it can be heard across much of the western half of North America. By day, its signal can be heard throughout Southern California, with city-grade coverage as far as San Diego, Santa Barbara and Tijuana, and secondary coverage as far as Bakersfield and northwestern Mexico, and at times can be heard some distance into Nevada and Arizona. The transmitter site is in La Mirada near the Artesia Boulevard exit of Interstate 5, the Santa Ana Freeway. Studios and offices are in Burbank, between the Warner Bros. station west of Chicago to broadcast at 50,000 watts. It began operations in 1922 and became one of the first high-powered, clear-channel Class A stations. KFI (640 AM) is a radio station in Los Angeles, California, owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc. Limbaugh had a lengthy history with KFI, which he has referred to as his West Coast flagship station for years. "KTLK, once thought of as a potential competitor with KFI, now garners a fraction of the audience that KFI does. The move in Los Angeles "is a blow to liberal talk radio, which has long struggled to build an audience," notes Real Clear Politics. Limbaugh will also move to a previously liberal station in San Francisco. Morning host Bill Handel's show will add an hour and go until 10 a.m. Limbaugh gets 9 to noon and Hannity takes noon to 3 p.m. Beck has not had an LA outlet lately and will air from 6 a.m. Limbaugh will air there along with Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. That will go away - along with hosts Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller - and the station will be rebranded as The Patriot 1150. ![]() The latter station has been the local outlet for the progressive talk format, featuring liberal chatter and content from even further to the left. The network announced today that Rush Limbaugh will shift from KFI, the station at AM 640 where his brand of right-winginess has been king for a couple of decades, and anchor a new conservative talk lineup at KTLK AM 1150. Clear Channel is shaking up its Los Angeles radio stations in a big way. ![]()
